THE HEALING EXPERIENCE

The animals living on Redemption Ranch are rescues from all over the world that have been given a second chance.

Horses have been used for therapeutic purposes for centuries, and for good reason. They have a special ability to connect with people and provide a range of physical and emotional benefits.

Horses have a unique ability to form strong bonds with humans, providing a sense of connection and belonging that can be both life-giving and life-changing. At Redemption Ranch, we have created an environment where animals and humans can interact and learn from one another.

Our horses, ponies, and zebras were all either abandoned, abused, or discarded.

They have all undertaken their own healing journey and are now being used to heal people going through their own struggles.

Equine Therapy is one of the most effective therapies in the world. Guests of the island not only get to interact with these beautiful creatures but many times find their own worthiness through hearing their stories of redemption.

Children's Experience

Redemption Ranch, BVI, is proud to support the youth of the British Virgin Islands. Through hands-on experience and inquiry-based discovery, children are given the opportunity to show care, kindness, and respect to our equine friends – as well as each other. This experience is available to schools, clubs, and programs for children aged 5+.

Horses

The gentle giants of Redemption Ranch – each horse has a unique story that brought them to their new home at The Aerial, BVI.

Rosebud

Rosebud is the head lady in charge, keeping the rest of the herd in line. She came to Redemption Ranch after a local vet asked to have her taken in. She was once a race horse at the local race track in BVI, but had been left to starve on the side of the road. The vet wasn’t sure she’d make it, but at Redemption Ranch, every life deserves a chance. Rosebud is now thriving. She is strong, brave, a bit sassy, and definitely smart. In fact, new special gate latches had to be installed, as she had learned how to open the paddock gates to let her, and her pasture mates out!

Skywalker

Skywalker came from the race track in St. Thomas, a nearby Caribbean island. The race track became defunct after the hurricanes Irma and Maria. Skywalker's owner called, saying he could no longer afford his feed and upkeep and was planning on euthanizing that evening if Skywalker wasn’t picked up. When Skywalker first arrived, he wasn’t pleasant to handle. Years of abuse had taken its toll on him and he no longer trusted people. Working slowly and patiently, the team at Redemption Ranch has brought out the best in Skywalker. He is now used for therapeutic riding, equine assisted healing, and his true passion - taking riders for swims in the ocean!

Warrior

Warrior came to Redemption Ranch from Tortola’s race track. He suffered a shoulder injury which left him unable to race, rendering him worthless to his previous owners. At Redemption Ranch, each life is valuable. Warrior has been given the time to heal, and is stepping into his new career in the Equine Assisted Healing program. Warrior is curious, and loves to learn. He may be the tallest thoroughbred, but he is the biggest softy!

Powell Ranger

Powell Ranger came to Redemption Ranch from the United States. He was in a kill pen, destined for slaughter, when his kind eye caught the attention of the Redemption Ranch team. Powell Ranger arrived underfed, sore and disheartened. Thrown away one too many times. After just a short time with the team, he has blossomed into an amazing horse that is safe for anyone to handle and ride. He is patient, slow and steady, helping to build confidence in even the most timid riders. He has become an absolute staple to the Equine Assisted Healing and Therapeutic Riding program.

Powell Ranger

Titan

At only 18 months old, still a baby, Titan was found in a kill pen, destined for slaughter. With his whole life ahead of him, Redemption Ranch intervened and secured his future. Titan is sweet, lovable, and nothing really bothers him. Even as a youngster, he has found his niche in the program and takes all of his training in perfect stride. His smaller stature, great personality and relaxed nature are sure to make him a guest favorite! The team is so excited to watch this young horse develop into an Equine Healing Partner.

Moonshot

Moonshot was found by the Redemption Ranch team at an auction. Standing a massive 6 feet tall at the back, he was hard to miss! Moonshot is the largest herd member at Redemption Ranch, but don’t let his size fool you, he is as kind and patient as they come. Moonshot is thriving in his new role, facilitating Equine Assisted Healing, proving that power and gentleness can occupy the same space. When he’s not working, Moonshot is absolutely loving island life and can be seen at the beach, taking riders for a swim!

Miniature Horses

First-hand proof that great things come in small packages. The six miniature horses at Redemption Ranch were all rescued from a kill pen, and condemned to horse slaughter. Now, they are guest favorites for their adorable personalities, calming nature, and swim breaks in the ocean.

After rescue, Hope took to island life, and her new role as an Equine Assisted Therapy partner seamlessly. Hope loves people and attention, especially neck scratches. She also loves a good swim in the ocean and a roll in the sand.

Breezy

After rescue, Breezy arrived with some deep emotional scars from physical abuse. The Redemption Ranch team spent time with him, showing him patience, gentleness and care. This transformed Breezy from being fractious from fear, into a cheeky, yet cuddly pony that is used for the Equine Assisted Healing programs.

Punky Poo

Punky has come a long way since being rescued. Just as his name suggests, Punky is full of spunk. When he is not participating in the Equine Assisted Healing programs, he loves a good run on the beach!

Stetsy Poo

Stetsy is handsome and he knows it! Looking at him now, you would never guess that he was rescued from a kill pen, minutes away from being loaded into a horse trailer and sent to slaughter. Stetsy is not only dapper, but incredibly smart. He has beauty and brains. He can untie the safety knots that Redemption Ranch uses to secure horses for brushing and bathing. Once he is loose, as the ringleader, he will go and untie the other ponies as well!

Booger

Booger is the smallest rescue, but don’t let his modest size fool you, he has a giant heart. He was just a few months old when Redemption Ranch rescued him. Booger is curious, friendly, and loves attention, especially baths and rump scratches. His gentle nature and small size make him ideal for our Equine Assisted Healing program.

Faith

Faith is still on her healing journey following her rescue that brought her to Redemption Ranch. Deep trauma stemming from physical abuse has left Faith extremely cautious of people. However, when working with Faith, the team at Redemption Ranch quickly realized that she loves human interaction, once she feels safe. Leaning into neck scratches and lazily lowering her head. Faith is often used to showcase how horses communicate and the importance of being mindful.

Zebras

Redemption Ranch is home to four zebras that are all herd mates. The zebras were rescued while they were en route to a trophy-hunting ranch in Texas. After being rescued, their journey brought them to their new loving home at Redemption Ranch. Now, nobody can resist their cute zebra kisses.

Launi is the youngest and boldest of our zebras. He is easily recognized by the brown on his muzzle and lack of shyness. He is the first of the zebras to come and great guests, checking their hands for snacks!

Mehow and Launi are best friends, and our two friendliest zebras. For the guests that want to get up close and personal, Mehow gives the best zebra kisses!

Havanka

Havanka is the leader of Redemption Ranch’s four zebras. He is the most cautious zebra, often alerting his herd mates of danger. You can recognize Havanka by his bolder black stripes and a white “A” on his left shoulder.

Elvis

Elvis and Havanka are good friends, often hanging out together, away from all of the “to-do” at Redemption Ranch. Elvis is not as cautious as Havanka, and can get quite curious when he sees Launi and Mehow getting attention (and snacks) from the team and guests.
