4 Vision Board Questions to Achieve Life Goals

January 19, 2024 | Britnie Turner

A vision board is a powerful tool to channel ambition and ask important life questions. Typically, a vision board is a collage of images, words, and affirmations that speak to the future you want to create. Making your own vision board can empower you to set intentions and create a visual representation of what you want out of life. Clarifying your goals and asking the right questions is the first step to making your dreams a reality.

What Is the Point of a Vision Board?

The point of a vision board is to portray images, questions, and mantras that manifest positive emotions and reflect your desired future. And while there is no such thing as a perfect vision board, a good vision board will spark a soul-searching journey to creating a better life. Coming up with vision board ideas is a creative process in and of itself.

Seeing your vision board on a daily basis may even trigger a neurological response in your brain that keeps you motivated. According to one study, external representations of a goal can increase people’s effort and commitment to pursuing that goal.

What Do I Need to Do Before Making a Vision Board?

Before jumping headfirst into creating a vision board, there are a few things you will need to prepare. While there is no right or wrong way to create a vision board, these preparatory steps will help:

1. Outline the areas of life you want to improve or work on. You could also write down any big dreams you have for the future.

2. Find a vision board template to use as a guide.

3. Gather materials for creating your vision board. Many people make a physical board from poster board or corkboard. However, you could also make a digital vision board. There are plenty of templates for digital vision boards available online.

To create a physical vision board, gather the following materials:

  • Poster board or corkboard
  • Magazine clippings, newspapers, or printed images
  • Scissors
  • Markers, paint, or colored pencils
  • Glue or adhesive tape
  • Ribbons, drawings, and inspirational quotes
  • Personal photos, mementos, or keepsakes

4. Come up with questions or prompts to guide the process of creating a vision board. These vision board questions will assist you in determining your goals for your future. Likewise, by answering these questions, you will gain a better understanding of the things that you want to manifest in your life.

Remember that money, resources, or your current financial circumstances shouldn’t be a barrier when answering these questions. Instead, use the questions on the vision board as a springboard to help you figure out what life themes and intentions are most important to you.

Powerful Questions to Include in Your Vision Board

The purpose of a vision board is to help bring awareness to what matters most to you. Also called a dream board, vision boards can help you work out how to bring your dreams to life. When creating a vision board, here are a few thought-provoking questions to include:

1. What Brings Me Joy and Fulfillment?

One top vision board question is asking yourself what brings you joy and fulfillment. You can discover what brings you authentic happiness by exploring your passions, interests, and values. For example, you could reflect on activities or experiences that filled you with joy and made your life feel purposeful.

Additionally, ask yourself what kind of impact you want to make in the world. For instance, many people enjoy volunteering for local charities or projects as it gives them a sense of purpose. The results of an Australian survey published in 2008 show that volunteering boosts personal well-being through a sense of perceived control and optimism. Determining what brings you joy and fulfillment empowers you to fill your days with activities that make your life feel meaningful.

2. What Values and Beliefs Are Important to Me?

Identifying your values and principles is essential for personal growth. That’s because your value systems and beliefs determine your priorities in life. Figuring out your life values and principles may involve profound introspection and self-reflection. Once you identify your values and beliefs, you can use them to hold yourself accountable and work toward living a life of greater integrity.

3. How Do I Envision My Ideal Future?

Creating a clear and ideal vision of your future involves self-reflection, goal-setting, and visualization techniques. When vision boarding, writing out your perfect future on a board can help you create the life you want by outlining intentional actions that will lead you there. For example, by using the first two vision board questions above–identifying what brings you happiness and your core values—you can start to set specific and measurable goals.

Creating the life you want is a deeply personal and empowering journey. If you want support in this journey, consider going on an immersive retreat. At The Aerial BVI, our private island retreat in the Caribbean, we offer an Elevate Dream Summit in which you will be challenged to relinquish limiting beliefs and replace them with new, limitless beliefs. By the end of the summit, you will have a 5-year, 1-year, and 90-day plan for making your dream life a reality.

4. Who Will Inspire and Support Me on My Journey, and How?

While navigating and creating your life plan, a mentor can push you in ways that others cannot. Mentors offer guidance and support and inspire you to be your best self, encouraging you to stay on track as you work toward achieving your life plan.

While a mentor could be a family member or a close friend, you may want more accountability and opt to hire a life coach. Life coaching offers many benefits, such as the opportunity to gain clarity about your dream career and overall purpose in life. Once you decide on a mentor, you can incorporate their words of wisdom into your vision board.

Create Your Vision Board—and Dream Life—Today

A powerful vision board combines visualization through pictures and your answers to important life questions. These questions should focus on things that truly matter to you and be accompanied by actionable steps to help you realize your dreams.

Once it’s finished, your vision board should be displayed in a visible location. When you pass by your vision board each day, take a few moments to visualize the life you desire. The power of visualization, when combined with consistent action, has the potential to transform your life path in a profoundly positive way.
